Deborah Moore, RPR
ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST

Deborah J. Moore has been a Recruitment Consultant with Bell Aliant (Aliant) since 2003. Bell Aliant is one of North America’s largest regional communications providers with its home base in Atlantic Canada.

Prior to her transition into Human Resources, Deborah spent approximately 20 years in Senior Executive Assistant management roles within Aliant, xwave and at the Capital District Health Authority in Halifax, NS. After spending six months, as an Executive Assistant in Aliant’s President and CEO’s office, where she was responsible for developing policies and procedures, balanced scorecards and competencies for the EAs at Aliant, Deborah’s innate talent in Human Resources was recognized and she was recruited into her present position as Recruitment Consultant.

Deborah is now responsible for providing high level, professional recruiting services to Bell Aliant’s managers and leaders. Her responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the delivery of high quality professional candidates, the retention of existing and new employees and cultivating talent for the future talent pool. Part of her role also involves reviewing Bell Aliant’s long term recruiting strategy and working with members of her HR team to ensure the needs of the organization are met. As a Recruitment Consultant, Deborah prides herself in developing and maintaining excellent relationships with hiring managers, candidates, and the community at-large. Her role also allows her to work within many areas of the Atlantic communities, namely the university community, which gives her the opportunity to develop important and valuable relationships with her colleagues outside the Bell Aliant organization.

As part of her career goals, Deborah continues to develop and expand her knowledge in the various HR specialties. Deborah holds an honours certificate from the Canadian Institute of Management through St. Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and is also a Registered Professional Recruiter (RPR). Deborah has also been trained in Harassment Investigation and Mediation. Prior to her HR career, Deborah attended and graduated with honours from the Maritime Secretarial Academy where she recognized quickly that this education provided her with the foundation that would assist her in her goal – a career in the area of business management.

When she is not at work, Deborah enjoys spending time with her partner, Dr. Brad Lohrenz and his two children, Tymonek and Yurek. She also loves to travel, read and makes physical fitness a regular part of her life. Deborah has also been a long time volunteer within in her community and has spent the last 17 years with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police volunteering in the Victim Assistance, Auxiliary, and Crime Prevention units.


Karen Hawes, RPR
BANKING ON A SUCCESSFUL CAREER CHANGE

Karen’s financial career began in London England prior to immigrating to Canada. She carries a Strategic Human Resource Certificate and the Registered Professional Recruiters designation, and is currently working on her CHRP designation. Karen began her career with Interior Savings Credit Union 12 years ago, working in various positions within the Credit Union such as Receptionist, Teller, Executive Administrator, Staffing Officer, Regional Coordinator, Human Resources and is currently the Regional Manager, Human Resources for the Okanagan Region.

Interior Savings Credit Union is the largest credit union based in the Interior of British Columbia with assets exceeding $1.4 billion. Through its 21 branches, two Commercial Lending Centres, and associated companies, the Credit Union offers personal and commercial banking, and a full range of insurance and wealth management services to members in 14 communities.

As a community conscious financial institution, Interior Savings is dedicated to corporately supporting and sponsoring various local sports, educational, service and cultural organizations that make communities better places to live. Employees also contribute countless hours and energy to help many local non-profit organizations.

In the role of Regional Manager, Human Resources Karen is responsible for the day to day management of the Human Resource Department for the Okanagan Region. Karen and her team have recently embarked on the journey to ensure that core competencies are integrated into all aspects of their human resource strategy, this includes career planning as well as succession planning. The team is currently identifying key positions within the credit union for the purposes of succession planning along with the creation of a knowledge management system.

Karen decided to make a career change into the Human Resource world three years ago and with the support of both the President & CEO and the Vice President, Human Resources was able to make a smooth transition. Karen believes that she was successful in her career change due to the mentoring and support she received from those individuals as well as many others in the HR profession.

Karen would like to complete her human resources designation; once completed she will be focusing on creating relationships with local universities and discussing strategies for Interior Savings Credit Union to attract new employees into the Credit Union.

Karen believes that family buy-in when changing career is also very important. She is grateful for the support that her husband and three children have given her. In her downtime she likes to spend time with her family skiing


Jaime Moore
BROAD RANGE OF EXPERIENCE DEVELOPS GENERALIST SKILLS

Jaime holds a B.A. in Industrial Psychology from the University of Western Ontario as well as a Certificate in Human Resources Management from Sheridan College. Jaime has also been granted her CHRP designation from the Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations.

This education has led her to work in various areas of Human Resources with a number of different organizations over the past six years, including Nestlé Canada, the National Aboriginal Health Organization, the Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa, as well as McConnell HR Consulting.

Currently, Jaime is employed with the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) which is an Ottawa-based Crown Corporation and Canada’s international contracting agency. CCC connects Canadian exporters to international public sector markets. Its main business is government-to-government contracting and procurement in defense and emerging and developing country markets. Last year, the CCC signed over $1.5 billion worth of contracts in 25 different countries.

Jaime is a Human Resources Advisor with CCC working in a generalist role to provide HR guidance to CCC management and employees. Her responsibilities include staffing, health and safety, classification, and policy development.

Jaime was first introduced to CCC through a consulting project where she provided services to the Corporation in recruitment and selection as well as work description development. There was an opening in the HR team, and Jaime was offered a position as a permanent member of their organization.

In the future, Jaime plans to expand her skills and experiences in the area of Human Resources. She hopes to have the opportunity to further her education through university and college courses in order to remain abreast of the most recent trends and changes in the world of HR management. Jaime also intends to work toward her Canadian Management Professional designation and is currently an active member of the Eastern Ontario Chapter of IPM associations.

When Jaime is not busy working or studying, she enjoys hiking in the Gatineau Hills, taking in an art exhibit or attending the theatre. Jaime also loves to travel, and has visited France, Italy and Spain, as well as Japan, where she spent a year teaching English and exploring the country.
